What is Queue Management?

Queue Management is the process used across all Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) to track and manage the progress of connection projects. It helps us monitor key milestones, ensure projects keep moving forward and identify any that are delayed or not progressing as expected. Where projects are not progressing, this process also allows us to release available network capacity to other customers who are ready to proceed. Our approach follows the industry-agreed principles set out in the Energy Networks Association (ENA) Queue Management User Guide. It ensures that every customer is treated fairly and helps make sure that available network capacity is used efficiently, so projects that are ready to progress can move forward, while projects that are not yet ready don’t hold up other connection projects indefinitely.

To keep your project on track, it’s important to submit all required evidence on time for each milestone. If you don’t provide the required evidence, we may need to remove your project from the connection queue unless exceptional circumstances apply. You would then need to reapply for a connection when you’re ready to continue.

When Queue Management applies

→ Project exceeds 5,000 kVA demand capacity

→ Project exceeds 1,000 kW generation export capacity in England, or 1,000 kW generation installed capacity in Scotland

→ Your project requires a Transmission Entry Assessment (TEA). If Queue Management applies to your project, your Connection Offer will specify the milestone process relevant to your connection. In line with your Connection Offer, the Energy Networks Association (ENA) Queue Management User Guide will be used to determine the required timescales and supporting evidence needed to complete each milestone.

Managing your Milestones

When you accept your Connection Offer, we’ll send you email updates throughout the project to remind you of milestone requirements and help keep your project on track for connection.

You can view the details of the evidence required for each milestone and track your project’s progress anytime online within your online account.

Understanding the Remedy Notice Period

For Connection applications we receive on or after 1st October 2025, a Remedy Notice Period will be applied. A Remedy Notice Period is extra time given after a milestone’s due date to help you provide the required evidence.

You’ll have 60 calendar days to remedy each milestone. This gives you the opportunity to stay on track and keep your project moving smoothly, even if you don’t meet the milestone by the original date.
