Why would I need to disconnect my electricity supply?

When your property no longer needs an electricity supply, for example, because it is going to be demolished, please contact us, so we can disconnect it from the mains network and make it safe.

It may be better to ‘de-energise’ the property if it is to remain in use. Please note, we can only de-energise if it's for less than 72 hours.

Simplifying the costs of the more common disconnections

We've simplified the costs for our more common domestic disconnections. Costs for these disconnections will now include a standard price to carry out the disconnection, plus some additional costs based on your location. Where your job qualifies for a standard price, the additional costs we may need to charge are limited to:

• Costs associated with any required traffic management.

• Travel costs if your property is beyond 30 miles from our closest depot.

• Costs for any special or heavy vehicles we may need to safely complete the installation.

Our more common disconnection types are as follows:

Name Description Minimum cost
LV Cable Disconnection of a Looped Service This is the disconnection of a property that may be a flat or dwelling that once formed part of a larger dwelling that has since been converted into multiple dwellings. To disconnect the property, we may need to un-loop the service, which is not included in the fixed base price. This type of disconnection has a minimum cost of £245 in England and £240 in Scotland.

LV Service Cable Disconnection at the Mains, in Made Ground

 This is the disconnection of a house, whether detached, semi-detached, etc. where the point of connection between your service and our network (i.e. where we will be performing the disconnection) is located beneath made ground (pavement, driveway, etc.). This point will be somewhere between your property and the road, so if there's a pavement, it's likely to be there. This type of disconnection has a minimum cost of £1,323 in England and £1,020 in Scotland.

LV Service Overhead Line (OHL) Disconnection

 This is the disconnection of a property connected to our network via an overhead service, where a disconnection can be made without affecting any surrounding properties. This type of disconnection has a minimum cost of £398 in England and £394 in Scotland

LV Service Cable Disconnection at the Mains, No Civils Works

 This is the disconnection of a house, whether detached, semi-detached, etc. where all excavations and reinstatement works are completed by you. This type of disconnection has a minimum cost of £263 in England and £250 in Scotland.

LV Service Cable Disconnection at the Mains, in Unmade Ground

 This is the disconnection of a house, whether detached, semi-detached, etc. where the point of connection between your service and our network (i.e. where we will be performing the disconnection) is located beneath unmade ground (e.g. grass). This point will be somewhere between your property and the road. This type of disconnection has a minimum cost of £864 in England and £576 in Scotland.

Information about disconnection and de-energisation

What we need from you:

  • Your contact details
  • The MPAN number of the property (or metered street furniture) you would like to disconnect
  • The full address and postcode of the site
  • A description of the purpose of the disconnection
  • How many disconnections you require
  • A Letter of Authority if you do not own the property (or metered street furniture)

Once we have all the information we need, a member of our team will put together a quote for you and get in touch to ensure you’re happy with the information we’ve sent you. After you have received, reviewed, accepted and paid for your disconnection, we will then contact you to schedule an appointment. We will contact your supplier to let them know you have requested to be disconnected from the network, and they will contact you to remove your meter and send you a final bill.
